In the early 1930s, Archie Grey Owl is a Canadian trapper when an Iroquois woman named Anahareo (Pony) asks him to teach her the ways of his people. Living deep in the woods, she is horrified by the cruelty of trapping and rescues two orphaned beaver kits, inspiring Archie to reconsider his path. He abandons trapping to become a guide and naturalist writer, eventually hired by the Canadian government to protect beavers in a reserve at Lake Ajawaan. His book garners national attention and invitations to lecture in England. Just before his departure, he and Pony marry, but in England, a hidden truth about his life comes to light. Can their love survive the revelation?
