
In a rundown Southern town during World War II, 14-year-old Jo Ann Foley endures a life of hardship and abuse at the hands of her bootlegging grandfather, Hank. Like her mother, Marie, she’s been trapped in a cycle of prostitution. Yet, amidst the turmoil, Jo Ann discovers solace and real love with a proud, struggling African American couple, Honey and Too Tall, who offer her a fleeting glimpse of hope and happiness.
