When Martin Luxford (Hugo Speer) gets released from jail, he channels his newfound passion for the saxophone into forming a swing band. Back in Liverpool, he gathers a quirky group of misfits and enlists his ex-girlfriend Joan (Lisa Stansfield) as the singer. There’s just one catch: Joan is now married to the cop who arrested him. Their first gig is at a heavy metal bar, and it doesn’t go as planned, making Martin’s dream of musical stardom a bumpy ride.
